Samantha Johnson receives CLAS Distinguished Achievement Award

We are proud to announce that our alumna, Samantha Johnson (BA in Women's Studies 2000) received the Distinguished Achievement Award from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences on October 30, 2009. She received the Naomi Harward Service Award and made the  Dean's list her senior year.  Her commitment to excellence continued after graduation.  She has been recognized with numerous awards including the ASU Alumni Young Achievement Award. She was also named to the Phoenix Business Journal's "Forty Under 40" and the "Real Hot 100" which is a group of young women from around the country who are "breaking barriers, fighting stereotypes, and making a difference in their communities and the nation."

She is relentless in her dedication to enriching lives and making a difference.  Johnson is a founding board member of Arthritis Introspective, volunteers countless hours to various community projects, and works with domestic violence shelters.  As a young leader, she has been invited to speak at conferences and in classes, and to participate on commissions and boards, including the Mayor's Commission on Disability Issues as full Commissioner and Chair of the Community Awareness and Education Committee.  She also served as a Commissioner for the Phoenix Women's Commission.

Johnson frequently returns to ASU to share her knowledge and passion for community engagement by speaking to classes and organizing panels for Women and Gender Studies on issues of disability.  She is currently employed with Schaller Anderson Mercy Care Plan as a Long Term Care Case Manager and Special Projects Coordinator.

As a graduate of ASU, she proudly represents her alma mater and advocates for higher education and community servitude.  Her accomplishments are in direct relation to her dedication to leadership, social change, and her spirit of enthusiasm that continues to direct her footsteps and inspire others.
